PBS KIDS Video Examine App

Ugh!

PBS Kids has the best content for kids. I can totally trust that the content is kid appropriate and educational. I can’t say that about any other app (except PBS Kids Games!) this is the best for traveling with kids. I can’t believe it’s free, it’s such an amazing app.

It won’t let me watch a video,I’m online and everything!😤😤!

The update has made for lots of frustrations from adults and kids. But we appreciate the free content.

Honestly the best way to watch Daniel Tiger!!

This new update is terrible. So much harder for kids to navigate. It is not kid driven at all. Please revert bad to old formate. Much easier for kids to navigate and makes choices. This new version is too confusing!

I downloaded the app to find a specific Daniel Tiger episode to show my kids. First of all, agreed with everyone that the auto play is loud and infuriating. But it’s also very user unfriendly. There is no search feature, and no way to see the title or episode number of each episode… it’s just half the title that gets cut off, but no way to expand it. I tried using it for 10 minutes and then deleted it in Frustration. I really hope the developers do some focus groups before they design another update.

My 4 year old loved using PBS kids for special times when he gets full control over what to watch. The app update has made it unusable for him. He has to know to tap the screen during a video to being up controls to pause or the tiny, tiny X in the top left to close the current episode. THEN he has to choose a back arrow to choose a different show. None of these are easy to find. Scrolling shows is more difficult. It seems set up for portrait mode vs landscape like the previous version. Please keep your audience in mind with the app. It’s the only app where I allow my kids control and they are extremely sad to have lost that autonomy and intuitive usage with this version.

I’ve loved this app for my preschooler. However, the update is horrible. The autoplay is obnoxious and I have to mute the device just to figure out which show to choose. And the episode titles are cut off, so it’s kind of a guessing game to know if I can find the specific episode my kid is looking for.

PBS is the best station out there and the only screen time I allow for my little. Unfortunately, I can’t get on board with the new app and developers need to listen to the users in the reviews and feedback. Why spend money to update something that wasn’t broken? We need to be able to use guided access to disable the screen so toddlers don’t access the other apps: accidentally dial people, etc. Also, the new Apple TV update is much harder to navigate: the show icons are incredibly small on the screen now resulting in it taking longer to find preferred shows each time I turn on the TV even though it’s a 75” screen. Why should each show icon be SO small and randomized each time? Once the preferred show is open the episodes are limited and now tons of clips have been added as well. Kids don’t want to watch 30seconds of clips. The app definitely should have been tested on multiple devices for ease of use on multiple devices in homes with kids before rolling out not just developers looking at their computer thinking it looked nice. We don’t want or need our PBS app to look like Netflix!

PBS kids just is great and good for kids to learn about how the world works and what the future holds for them and how they can make it better

I cannot believe you got rid of the original look of the PBS Kids video app and replaced it with a new one with no warning! How come you got rid of the old one?! Will the original look of the PBS Kids video app be gone forever?!?!? This game was awesome 🤩 can’t stop watching it now and I can’t wait to see it updated soon 🔜 as it comes out.l wanted to say that this is the best game ever created by you and I am so excited to see it is going to be a great game.

Updating previous review after feedback from developer, which I appreciate. I hope they’re considering the plethora of complaints from other users about this new update. Many problems with app update: 1- cannot swipe up on the iPhone within the app to get to the control panel thingy where I can access screen brightness, volume aaaaaand… ACCESSIBILITY SETTINGS. Need to play this in a kid’s cochlear implant? Too bad. You can’t. Or, you have to jump through 50 hoops to do so first. 2- speaking of 50 hoops….. CASTING. You can only use chrome cast from the main screen, not once you actually start to play a show (at that point, only AirPlay is available). So, you have to start casting from the home screen in order to be able to use chrome cast. Which brings me to…. 3- autoplay. There is no stopping the autoplay. None. Zip. Nada. You touch it (expecting it to pause like everything else in the digital world) and it opens full screen. What??? Exit full screen to return to navigating the app and… you guessed it. It starts autoplaying again. SO LOUD. So disruptive. So unnecessary. 4- the navigation is just so clunky. Seems like there a 5 different ways to get to the same place, when in the old app there was just one. Please fix the app, revert back to the old one, whatever. Look at the onslaught of horrible reviews from frustrated parents since you pushed out this update. It should tell you something. Take the feedback!

It’s free and shows all the seasons and full episodes of shows I grew up with. The app also allows you to stream the video to your Tv. I am truly satisfied and had to write a genuine review.:))

Love the upgrade to it it’s good now I can actually download things like my shows good job 🌺

Number one I wanna see when the live stream is gonna be here number two. I miss one is gonna be expired and number three. I like the old one not the new one please stop making new look.

We need the old version For Special Needs Children and Adults. My son could easily navigate and now that’s over. So sad

Great content, have been using this for my kid for a couple years now. However, the most recent update is a step backwards. The old interface wasn’t great but the new interface makes it much harder to stop the autoplay, which is way too distracting for kids. Navigating episodes and shows has gotten much worse. Have also experienced bugs where it resumes an episode and is auto playing from the menu at the same time. Please provide an option to disable autoplay on the main and show menus!

It is very boring and needs more and better shows I know it’s an app for kids but still,maybe you could add “The Thundermans Undercover” or something I don’t know but I would really appreciate if you could do that for me.Please and thank you

New update has ruined airplay. Can only cast to TV while keeping the app open? And the phone on? Fix it please! ❤️

You’re really did it this time. My kids do not like this now version cause I’ll saying is 26 minutes till Arthur 23 minutes until Daniel Tiger no I want my kids to know the original one turn it back now. Not trying to be rude so you better

If you don’t have a TV with a native PBS Kids App (like Roku), this app’s screen mirroring functionality is the best way to watch PBS Kids with your kids. But this latest update has made it so the video pauses whenever the iOS device’s screen goes dark, making it a real challenge to use. Please test how screen mirroring work as and fix this issue.

Recent app update changed the way you can view the episode. You can’t rotate it to get the large viewing. You just get the single little viewing which makes it difficult with the kids sharing the phone.

I’ve been a parent for 6 years and for most of those 6 years I can say that one of the things that has made my life easier is this app. And it has remained constant in a world full of unnecessary changes. But unfortunately PBS kids has decided they can’t leave well enough alone A few mornings ago when my daughter woke up in the 5 o clock hour I decided I needed a bit more sleep and I would let her watch her favorite PBS show on my phone. Groggy and with eyes half shut it should have been like autopilot but when I opened my app I figured I opened the wrong one. I opened it again and realized it had all changed. First- the orientation is different? Why? Landscape makes more sense because that is how shows are viewed. It is confusing to find anything. My kids used to be able to navigate the app and now it’s not even user friendly for me. When I select a show, one starts playing instantly. Very inconvenient as most kids like to pick their episode. Then when you pick your episode you have to make sure you screen orientation is unlocked so the show can be viewed in full screen. I’m all for change when it makes sense. In my house I always tell my kids we don’t say hate so I’ll just say I really really don’t like these changes. I’m begging you to go back to the original. I would be happy to change my review to 5 stars after that but this app just doesn’t make sense! You had something clear and streamlined and user-friendly. Now you have a jumbled mess.

Good video’s but can’t get them downloaded

Im 13 but omg it’s such a time killer i went for a 4hour drive and I didn’t even notice perfect for kids and adults i think you should add the option to download everything but great work!

When I updated this app, it became very difficult to play a video I pick because of a video automatically playing prevented the video of my choice from playing. It’s like an interruption. Could you please fix this app so I can play the video of my choice? Thanks.

I used to be able to disable touch and turn on Guided Access and the show would continue playing. Now, when you turn on Guided Access, it pauses the show and you have to press play which means you cannot disable touch. I loved how I could have my kid focus on one show instead of jumping to something new every couple of minutes, but that is no longer an option

I was so excited for the new update thinking it could only get better. Boy was I wrong. 1. The auto play feature on the front page? Terrible. You can’t even mute it or pause it. 2. The show selection icons are too small for littles. Personally I’m able to figure it out, but when sitting with my little one it’s very confusing. The “Picks of the Week” is obnoxious, and “whats new, get ready for summer etc” take up too much screen space and makes it so much harder to select the show you want. PBS Kids used to be great, and I hope something will change- because this update is not it. 3. Chromecast is no longer available? So the only option is airplay, in which the app has to be open and running on the iPad/ phone in order to work. You can’t navigate away from the screen. It’s horrible.

Really good app but could use more brain rot and has way too many ads for my children and it makes them have a meltdown every ads it’s actually annoying when they watch the videos

The splash screen is brighter than the sun and louder than a rocket launch. It is entirely superfluous and I should not have to remember to mute my phone to open an app.

When I try to download some videos for the car, it won’t let me download them. I’ve tried every thing, and it would work!!!☹️😑😑😥😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞 I have done research on it and it still won’t work. And I have WIFI to do it.
